Using a variety of advanced transport technologies including digital technologies, such as traffic big data, AI, and IoT; technologies for studying traffic safety measures; and technologies for studying traffic congestion measures through traffic simulations, we examine traffic accident and congestion countermeasures and promote initiatives to make safe, smooth, comfortable road transportation a reality.
Study on traffic operation taking autonomous vehicles into account
By replicating the traffic behavior of each individual vehicle and autonomous vehicles using FAMS (Future Advanced MicroSimulator), an expressway traffic microsimulation software developed in-house at Oriental Consultants, we are able to accurately comprehend the causes of traffic congestion and of the issues expected to arise when autonomous truck platooning is introduced and offer appropriate solutions, such as how junctions should be structured.
Promoting transportation planning that supports urban planning through the use of 3D city models
We work to promote sustainable transportation planning that supports urban planning through building a data coordination platform using 3D city models and MMS data, conducting analysis and verification in cyberspace, and conducting spatial studies. These analysis and survey results help to improve mobility services and are reflected in space design.
Using AI technology to understand traffic conflicts and analyze the causes of traffic accidents
Through observation and recording of traffic events over a prolonged period of time, using the footage from AI cameras and drive recorders, we gained understanding of rarely occurring traffic conflict incidents, and constructed a system that reproduces such incidents on a 3D road model. In this way, we have become able to understand the true causes of traffic accidents that had until now been overlooked, and we are working on the formulation of more appropriate countermeasures.
Planning of walkable areas based on an analysis of pedestrian flows using AI cameras
Using AI cameras to understand people’s movement and how they spend time in an area, we are creating street spaces that are comfortable and encourage walking, for example by positioning facilities so to avoid conflict between lines of travel and by planning appropriate cargo loading spaces.
